What is the best way to provide support for grandparents raising grandkids?
If you are a grandparent raising grandkids, what are your first steps?
Your relationship with your grandkids is usually removed from the relationship they have with their parents.
Now you as the grandparent will be parenting them, making decisions for them, and giving them direction.
How can families and communities find support for grandparents raising grandkids?
Honestly, this may be the first time in a long time that children are counting on you for their future. And now it’s your grandchildren. You as a grandparent are now in the REparenting category. This means, you are parenting again! See THE JOYS AND EXHAUSTION OF PARENTING GRANDCHILDREN.
But, keep in mind, as you are REparenting, you are now older, wiser, and generally more patient. However, you may not be physically, emotionally or economically prepared to raise kids again.
You also may not be knowledgeable enough or comfortable enough to raise your grandkids in the new age of technology.
Grandparents may be facing lots and lots of concerns and issues about raising grandkids. It would be wonderful if grandparents who are raising grandkids were able to talk to each other to discuss the challenges and difficulties they are facing.
